Romania enjoys a typical temperate continental climate of the transitional type characteristic of Central Europe, although there are significant differences between the northern and southern parts of the country. Winters are long and severe, while summers are warm.
The warmest areas are in the south, with temperatures reaching 33 degrees during the summer months, whilst in the mountainous northern and eastern regions of Transylvania, temperatures are more moderate and in winter regularly drop below freezing.
Romania has four distinct seasons. Spring is the driest season, with warm days and cool nights, summer brings high temperatures, particularly in the southern and eastern plains, though showers and thunderstorms are common, especially in the northern part of the country. Autumn is dry and crisp, whilst winters are quite severe. From December to March, it’s not uncommon to encounter snowfall in Romania, particularly if you’re travelling in the mountainous areas.
Below are the weather forecasts for the next days for the main tourist destinations.
